Why should I use a travel agent and not the Internet?

Village Travel Service encourages our client's to utilize the Internet.  It is a wonderful source of information for the majority of the world.  However, travel agents can provide personalized service and first hand knowledge of hotels, cruise ships and take the guess work and time out of your busy schedule.  Their years of experience can't compare to the "words" found on the Internet - often placed there to "sell" you something on the spur of the moment.  Trust an agent first - they truly have your best interests at heart and work hard to establish a long standing relationship with you.

Air Travel

Can you find me a better airfare than I can get off the internet?

We can find the same or better fare for specific dates and times, direct flights, and complicated itineraries.  We can also find the "internet nightmare schedule" associated with the supposedly lowest fare and compare the options and value for you.

What should I have and not have in my carry on luggage?

Carry your prescription medications with you in their original containers. Carry your valuables, jewelry, money, and passport with you. If possible, carry one change of clothes with you in case your checked luggage is delayed or lost. Carry unexposed 400ASA or higher film with you and asked to have it inspected by hand.

Never take sharp objects such as pocket knives, needles, scissors, and fingernail files.  Always examine your purse and pockets before arriving at the airport - don't assume that security will let you slide by.

European Travel

I am thinking of traveling to Europe for the first time and am wondering if it would be better to go independently or on an organized tour?

A tour offers stress free travel with an experienced and knowledgeable guide to assist you.  However, your itinerary is planned out prior to your departure and no deviations can be made once the tour starts.

Touring on your own affords you the opportunity to stay in each destination as long as you wish.  This allows you to customize your travel plans to your individual wants, needs and desires.

Family Travel

I want to take my family on vacation - what do you suggest?

Think about what interests everyone in your family have.  Are they sun lovers, history buffs, roller coaster fanatics, outdoor types, indoor types?  What ages are your children?  What would be age appropriate for them? Do a little research, ask some questions. Get your whole family involved with the planning.  Have fun with it.

What are some of the most popular destinations recommended for families and why?

Disney, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean are great destinations for families. All offer good weather, beaches, and activities that fit a wide variety of budgets.  There are also family all-inclusive resorts which are an excellent value.

How far in advance should I book my vacation?

If you are "date specific," plan your vacation as far in advance as you can. Don't be disappointed by flights, hotels, and tours that have been sold out months ago. Remember that you're not the only one requesting that space.

If you are more flexible, anticipation and planning your vacation is still half the fun! We recommend you start planning at least 4 to 6 months or more in advance to optimize availability.

Is an all-inclusive vacation a good value?

Usually, An all-inclusive vacation is a good value because virtually everything is included in the price and paid for in advance before you go.  You don't have to worry about where to eat or how much it will cost.  Many "water sports" are included as is nightly entertainment. You can have as active or relaxing vacation as you like.

Is it a safe time to travel?

As professional travel consultants, we keep abreast of world events and travel advisories. Use the links in this website to get the lastest travel conditions updated by the State Department. Regardless where you travel - be it 50 or 5000 miles from home - always be aware of your surroundings, use common sense, and travel with other people.

Should I take the optional insurance offered by a tour or cruise company?

We do recommend travel insurance. However, the tour or cruise company's insurance may not offer the coverage you need.  In particular, the tour of cruise company's insurance will does not cover their own financial default. We will compare for you the best travel insurance coverage and costs with an independent travel insurance company vs. the tour or cruise company insurance according to your individual needs.
